Serene’s thoughts: 小夫妻 (Little Couple)

It is a wonderful feeling to spend a Sunday morning amongst lush greenery and beautiful orchids. Lawrence and Wendy held their solemnization and wedding lunch banquet at the lovely Mandai Orchid Gardens 31 August 2008, and I am sure like myself, their guests walked away with a beautiful and unique experience.

The couple exchanged their vows in a little tentage surrounded by the tranquil of the gardens. After the solemnization ceremony, guests were encouraged to mingle around the Orchid Gardens and were invited to return to the main tentage, where the wedding lunch would commence slightly before noon.

A sumptuous buffet spread was laid out for the luncheon, over looking the vast garden with a beautiful display of orchids. A little shower that ended slightly before the lunch commenced brought along a nice and inviting cool which set the perfect atmosphere for an outdoor lunch.

A few weeks before the wedding, I met up with Lawrence and Wendy. I could tell they were pretty stressed up with the challenge of holding their wedding at this unique venue. However amidst the stress and a thousand and one areas to coordinate, a few aspects of this couple came across. Parents and friendship meant a lot to them. The couple requested for me to sing “You Raise Me Up” as a dedication to their parents. They had also requested for the meaning of this song to be elaborated in both English and Chinese which really showed how much this dedication meant to them. The other dedication was “You’ve Got A Friend”, specially dedicated to their friends and helpers.

The highlight of the afternoon, however, was when Lawrence nervously announced that he was going to sing for his wife. The nervous groom looked at his wife and pledge that he would love her forever, a classic ‘”awww”” moment that sent people around the room smiling. As it was a duet and a surprise item planned for Wendy, I helped out with singing the female part of the duet by Ocean and Joi Chua titled 小夫妻 (Little Couple). Lawrence did a fantastic job (and that is without even having the time to rehearse with us!) and garnered applause from his guests. Wendy was all smiles and looked gorgeous in an blue coloured gown adorned with crystals.

So there in the beautiful gardens where the sun started to come out after the brisk shower on a cherry Sunday afternoon, we celebrated the union of Lawrence and Wendy with an afternoon of good food, drinks, laughter and love songs specially hand picked by their couple for their special day. With trusty helpers who ran around coordinating the events of the day, wonderful emcees, and meticulous planning by the couple determined to make this special day in their lives memorable for their guests, it was an afternoon to remember.

There were no chandeliers, dazzling lights, nor decorated walls …… Instead, they chose the clear blue skies, a picturesque garden, and a natural relaxed ambience. Isn’t that what love is all about? Saying “I Do” in the beautiful embrace of nature, and in the company of the people who matter so much to you…

Our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Lawrence and Wendy. Thank you for your kind hospitality in ensuring we were taken care of, and finally many thanks to the wonderful response we received from your guests.
