Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: 月亮代表我的心 Part Deux

I’m beginning to sound like a broken record. Remember Jerlyn and Jowie’s wedding? This time, it was Derren’s turn to serenade Pennie with the classic, 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart).
How should he do it? For maximum effect, I suggested a slight change in the programme. Instead of Derren singing the song while walking (to the stage for the champagne pouring ceremony) with Pennie, he should let Pennie walk in first with his father. While the guests are wondering where Derren is, Derren will start to sing, and let his voice herald his entrance.
It worked wonderfully. As Derren’s deep bass voice crooned, “你问我爱你有多深*…”, everyone’s heads turned to see Derren singing with his arms outstretched, walking towards Pennie, whose face was flushed with joy.
It was a moment which I’m sure they will remember for the rest of their lives.
* You ask me how deep my love is for you
Band: Hsin Yeow, Jonathan Lim and Feri
Had a great time working with Jon Lim again. He’s a really talented saxophone player, and we performed together for Cass and Melvin’s wedding. Feri was wonderful as always, and carried the melody for most songs while Jon filled in the highlights.
Repertoire:
We performed at a beautiful mansion at Sentosa called The Arches. For our first set, we performed at the balcony, where the guests were mingling after the solemnisation ceremony.

For our second set, Pennie wanted us to stroll to each table to sing to the guests. This gave us a lot of opportunities to interact with them, and I ended up singing Can You Feel The Love Tonight? to a sweet little girl who gently swayed along with me!

1st March-in: It Had To Be You
2nd March-in: Medley of When I Fall In Love/月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart)
Strolling: Only You, Quando Quando Quando, Something Stupid, Can You Feel The Love Tonight?, She, Moon River, (I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons, Rainbow Connection, C’est Si Bon, Save The Last Dance For Me
Wedding Tips:
(1) Make a grand entrance by performing for your spouse!
(2) If space is too tight to have a stationary band, consider engaging strolling musicians
Compliments from Derren:
Pennie and I received many favorable comments from our guests on A Little Dream‘s performance at our wedding on 20th May this year.
Hsin Yeow, our MC and lead singer of the trio was especially helpful with his suggestion on how I should approach the evening by singing and walking towards Pennie from the winding stairs of The Arches mansion; away from the view of most guests.
The effect was great and the guests were kept in suspense for a minute as to where the voice came from (did I also mention about Hsin Yeow’s “vocal support” for me?)
Even my little niece was delighted, and danced to the tune by A Little Dream (see picture)
Good job guys and all the best!
