Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Collide
Five minutes in Sonya and Kenny’s company will leave you without any doubt that the two are meant to be together.
I had the pleasure of their company one June evening at Borders, and I was completely charmed by them. They regaled me with the fascinating story of how they met, fell in love, and gained the blessings of both families. This could fill up an entire blog entry, so I shall be brief. They were initially worried about getting the approval of their families, but their fears evaporated when their fathers met by coincidence at a car park, and realised they were childhood friends! Subsequently, they found out that their children were in love with each other, and they could not be happier.
Indeed, Kenny and Sonya’s wedding celebration was a elaborate event, which started with an hour-long Praise and Worship session conducted by their Pastor. During the ceremony, Linus helped to provide accompaniment for three songs: Falling, In You I Live, How Great Is Our God. To make the ceremony even more memorable, Jessica (a sweet girl with blessed with a pure tone) and Aunty Olive lent their talents by performing two hymns.
The dinner itself was marked by surprise performances, touching speeches and boisterous expressions of love. The master of ceremonies was Sonya’s brother Dave, and he did an incredible job stringing the various items together. He had a great sense of humour too, judging by how well he kept the crowd entertained when he gave his speech. For example, he related how Sonya wanted to be a bride at a tender age of 9, and identified her future husband as “Ken” (Barbie’s boyfriend). Amazingly, Sonya was right!
Kenny’s sister, Daphne, also waxed lyrical about her brother, a “natural actor”, and how he kept the family’s spirits up with his ebullient personality.
And how good an actor was Kenny? Just to prove Daphne’s point, Kenny delivered a jaw-dropping, show-stopping rendition of Air Supply’s Making Love (Out Of Nothing At All)! Kenny didn’t just sing, he performed the song, complete with well-placed hand actions and a multitude of vivid expressions to bring out the meaning of the lyrics. Like the rest of us, Sonya seemed in awe of her husband’s talent. When Kenny’s performance ended, Sonya gave him a passionate hug that seemed to last for ages.
Congratulations, Sonya and Kenny, for having found your soul mates in each other! It was a privilege to have performed at your wedding, and may your love for each day grow to be as boundless as the sea!
