Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Ideal World

I love singing at new places, and I was particularly stoked to be performing in Capella for Carmen and Ian’s wedding. I’d heard how beautiful the hotel was, and I couldn’t wait to see it for myself.

Once I arrived though, my focus was all on making the performance a great one. Matthew, Keith and Ivan were great musicians in their own right, but we had to figure out how to work as a team, and give each other space to shine musically.

After getting that sorted out, we did our best to entertain the guests with a mix of old and new. The crowd broke out into appreciative applause when I sang The Water Is Wide and You Raise Me Up, and I was glad to have picked those songs.

Carmen and Ian’s wedding was filled with great speeches. There were so many memorable quotes I barely had time to record them all. My favourite one was Ian’s account of how he met Carmen. At their first meeting, she struck him as an unusually quiet lawyer; sparks didn’t fly until Ian had the opportunity to bring the visiting Carmen around Singapore. She first impressed him by choosing to eat at Newton hawker centre instead of a fancy restaurant. Then she fascinated him by revealing that she volunteered her time to teach English to underprivileged children.

Ian declared, “Carmen’s dream is to devote herself to charity work full-time. I promise to work hard, so that you don’t have to. I was make sure you can fulfill your dreams, but be kind to my supplementary cards and don’t spend so much, okay?”

Congratulations Carmen and Ian! Thanks for engaging us for your wedding.

P.S. Special thanks to Denise and Sylvia of Idea Inn!

Compliments from Carmen and Ian:

A Little Dream truly made the atmosphere a dream. Although Carmen (being the bride) was not able to enjoy every song, what with walking in and out changing and sitting the changing room, she almost refused to walk out to change a second time because of the nice selection of songs.

Most, if not all, guests thoroughly enjoyed the performance as each band member coordinated well and the music was not too loud for the guests’ liking.

We even had people asking about the band in case their big day comes soon and need a reliable band for performance. Even the older generation who did enjoy music as much said nothing but praises about the band’s performance during the night.

The only complaint we heard was how fast it seemed like the band finished playing (due to how much they enjoyed it), although they played two complete full sets nonstop.

We would like to thank A Little Dream for making the night a blast for the young, for the old, for all guests, and most of all, for us. The music made us less nervous about the whole night’s events despite how overwhelming things were. Thanks!
