Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: 但愿人长久 (May All Live Well And Long)
Jason and Pei Pei’s love story
Jason and Pei Pei first knew each other as colleagues back in 1999. They were in different departments, so they hardly communicated on work matters. Pei Pei first caught Jason’s eye when they participated in the company’s Recreation Club. Although Pei Pei was, in Jason’s words, “unapproachable” and “snobbish”, Jason was won over by her “attractiveness” and her “classy and model-like appearance”. “Commando Jason” was determined to overcome all obstacles as “No Mountain Is Too High” and “No Ocean Is Too Deep”!
Jason’s break came when they were roped in to be organise the company’s D&D party in 2001. Pei Pei took notice of Jason as “a cheerful and fun-loving person.” What began as casual lunch dates became opportunities for heart-to-heart talks as they realised they could confide in each other on anything under the sun.
After dating for the next three years, Jason and Pei Pei went on a trip to Paris to celebrate Christmas. On Christmas eve 2004, at the top of the Eiffel Tower, Jason suddenly knelt down in front of Pei Pei and proposed. How could Pei Pei say no?
What surprised us all, after Jason narrated the whole proposal story to the wedding guests, was that Pei Pei did not say, “Yes”! Apparently, she was too overwhelmed to say anything, so Jason never got the satisfaction of hearing an affirmative “Yes” from Pei Pei. Then Jason turned to his lovely wife and asked, “So will you marry me?”
This time, Pei Pei’s answer was a resounding, “Yes!”
Eleanor, Linus, Ivan and I had an enjoyable time performing at the wedding. For me personally, I was touched by Pei Pei’s effort in trawling the blog to pick the songs she liked. Many of the songs I sang that night came from our list of recommended songs, including All My Life, Stand By Me, From Here To Eternity and Someone To Love.
I also got them to dance to Teresa Teng’s 但愿人长久 (May All Live Well And Long), which was a little surprise Jason and I planned. Pei Pei had no idea what was in store, but was sporting enough to dance with Jason when I made the announcement.
Congratulations Jason and Pei Pei! Thank you so much for engaging us. May you both find love and joy every day of your marriage!
