Imelda’s thoughts: At The Beginning

When Jason and Ruoying took their first march-in into the ballroom, it looked like a Prince and Princess had just popped out of a fairy tale. As does every bridal couple you might think, but I say this with all sincerity. Perhaps it was Ruoying’s cute little tiara or even Jason’s crisp cream-white suit , but whatever it was certainly made their moment even more like the perfect fairy tale wedding come true.

Looking at Jason and Ruoying made me want to get married all over again. Yes, even with all the pre-wedding preparations that hovered between “stressful” and “I don’t want to get married”, it was all worth it! What really made me smile was seeing how exceptionally relaxed this couple seemed. This is why I especially love lunch wedding banquets – knowing that the sun will still be shining at the end of the meal always makes the atmosphere feel lighter somehow.

Hsin Yeow, Hui Lim, Melvin, James and I had a great time performing at this luncheon, especially amongst such wonderful guests who sung along to the familiar tunes. And even when they didn’t, they responded with appreciative applause that is every performer’s greatest satisfaction. Even as we stepped off stage after our final, final song, the banquet manager presented us with yet another list of additional song requests which we were unfortunately not able to perform due to time constraint.

The highlight of the pleasant afternoon was when Ruoying’s auntie surprised the wedding couple with the gift of a song – 月光光 (The Shining Moon), a traditional Cantonese folk song that parents sung to their young ones with blessings of a good life ahead. Amidst the busy photo taking and noisy table “Yam Sengs”, I saw Ruoying take brief but grateful glances at the singing auntie who has watched her blossom to the young lady who’s now ready to embark on life’s other journey – marriage.

Jason and Ruoying, just like every fairy tale has a happy ending, may your story of life together have its own “happily ever after”. God Bless!

“I’ll be there with the world stops turning…
I’ll be there when the storm is through…
In the end I want to be standing
At the beginning… With You.”
