Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Shall We Dance?

Shall we dance?
On a bright cloud of music shall we fly?
Shall we dance?
Shall we then say “Goodnight and mean “Goodbye”?
Or perchance,
When the last little star has left the sky,
Shall we still be together
With our arms around each other
And shall you be my new romance?
On the clear understanding
That this kind of thing can happen,
Shall we dance?

James and Wynne’s wedding reception began with this chirpy number from the Rodgers and Hammerstein movie The King And I.

It turned out that the song choice was prescient, because the emcee later sprung a surprise on James and Wynne by asking them to have a First Dance onstage. The sporting couple obliged, and I sang a slowed-down version of Beyond The Sea while they wrapped their arms around each other and danced.

It was just one of the many, many memorable and touching highlights of the wedding.

Wynne’s touching speech was another. Although she tried hard not to cry, tears flowed freely as she gave thanks to her parents. James, too, had some difficulty finishing his speech.

I’ve always enjoyed performing with Juliet, and that night was no different. Her Can’t Take My Eyes Off You was so infectious, I saw mothers holding their babies and bobbing to the beat! When I pointed them out to Juliet, she immediately changed the chorus to “I love you babies and if it’s quite all right, I need you babies to warm the lonely night!”

We were also happy to sing an audience request — Can’t Help Falling In Love. When I sang Love Me Tender, I said, “We need a little Elvis in the house to bring on the mood for romance!” Straight away, we received a slip of paper bearing three other songs by The King. Looks like Elvis lives on!

Congratulations James and Wynne! And thanks, Wedding Acts, for the opportunity!

P.S. I have to document this: Wynne’s the first bride I’ve seen who entered the ballroom with her husband toting a camera, and took photographs of her wedding guests while walking down the aisle! I like!

Compliments from James and Wynne: Greetings from Japan!

Hi Hsin Yeow,

Thanks for the great music for our wedding dinner, it made it just that much more memorable!

A lot of our guests liked your band and enjoyed themselves. One even commented that Juliet sounded like Stacey Kent when she sang “Shall We Dance”. You guys handled the songs very competently and Wynne really loved “Ice Hotel”.

Thanks once again so much for the memories!

We will definitely recommend you to our friends.
