Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Save The Last Dance For Me
In the early days, Renee and Elvin’s relationship survived on the power of long-distance communication. Separated by thousands of miles — Renee was in London while Elvin was in Singapore — they spent countless hours (and lots of money) on the telephone.
To alleviate Renee’s loneliness, Elvin also sent her a memorable gift — a bouquet of tulips with the message, “Let me be your happy fruit!” That cheered Renee up considerably, and through a fortunate turn of events, Elvin flew over to join Renee. Their relationship blossomed, and they decided to take the momentous step of becoming husband and wife.
What was memorable about the wedding was the great rapport we had with the couple and some of the guests. Elvin and Renee did not even ask to rehearse with us for their first dance — Michael Buble’s Save The Last Dance For Me. They had complete trust in me, and I was glad that they no problems dancing to our live performance of the song!
Some of the guests loved to sing, so they came up to James, called him lao shi (teacher), and asked him to play the songs. Even though James had never heard those songs in his life, he was good-natured enough to oblige. So, for the first time, he played these two Hokkien classics, 乾一杯 (Drink Up!) and 爱拼才会赢 (Fight For Love To Win), to the delight of the guests!
I was also delighted by how the crowd responded to our music. Usually, the audience would applaud after hearing some familiar numbers. What surprised me was that the guests applauded after I performed a rather obscure song, The Water Is Wide. Our connection with the guests grew stronger and stronger, and by the time we rolled out the dance tunes, the floor was crowed with guests who were enjoying our music!
Congratulations Renee and Elvin! We had a fabulous time at your wedding. Thank you for engaging us. It was a privilege to be part of your special night!
