Bevlyn’s thoughts: Tonight I Celebrate My Love

Willie had asked his guests to arrive at 6.30 p.m. for the cocktail reception, so he told me he wanted the 1st march-in to start at 7.30 p.m. I was amused and told him straight, “Willie, in my years of wedding singing, I’ve never attended one which started at 7.30 p.m. You’d be lucky if it started at 8.30 p.m.”

In fact, couples who want their dinner to commence early end up having theirs start the latest (like 8.45 p.m. or even 9 p.m.). True enough, his 1st march-in started at 8.30 p.m. sharp.

Everything went smoothly for that performance. The guests were very appreciative, especially the Koreans who gave the loudest applause.

The Fullerton Ballroom was done up beautifully. The only issue I have with the hotel is that it does not permit bands to use their sound system for performances. Thus, Willie and Sena had to fork out extra money to hire a separate one. Fortunately, Willie did not mind, and the band had a blast! I have to say it was definitely one of my most satisfying performances because of the fantastic monitor.

P.S. Many guests were dressed to the nines, and a handful were wearing Korean and Japanese (Willie’s business partners) traditional costumes. Sigh, if only I remembered to bring a camera along that evening!

Band: Bevlyn, ZQ, Ein Ein and Wilson

Repertoire:

We love to sing songs that are close to the couples’ hearts. In Willie and Sena’s case, that special song is Tonight, I Celebrate My Love, which they always sing together at karaoke sessions.

As his father is a fan of Nat King Cole, I also suggested performing L-O-V-E and (I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons.

I was also happy to sing a couple of French songs for his foreign business partners who attended the wedding. (Note to other couples: I have always found it a challenge to learn songs in foreign languages, so bring it on!)

1st Set: Tonight I Celebrate My Love (1st dish fanfare), Fallen, Fly Me To The Moon, Always True To You In My Fashion, Beyond The Sea, Quando Quando Quando, So Nice, The Way You Look Tonight, C’est Si Bon (French), Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, La Vie En Rose (French), Something Stupid

2nd Set: L-O-V-E (2nd March-in), Valentine, When You Say Nothing At All, (I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons, Can’t Help Falling In Love, Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall In Love), The Gift, Grow Old With You, When I Fall In Love

Wedding Tip:

When selecting songs, think of the ones you love, what your parents like and also what your guests would enjoy!

Compliments from Willie:

Willie sent me an SMS the next day: “Hi Bevlyn, thanks for singing at my wedding. A lot of my guests told me they enjoyed your band very much! We hope to engage your band soon in the near future. Keep in contact!”

(Bevlyn: Thanks, Willie, I had a great time too 🙂)
