Hui Bing’s Thoughts – 爱得正好 (The Right Kind Of Love)

I always thought that an emcee was essential in a wedding but Hong Fong and Chui Peng’s ingenuity showed me otherwise.

Before they made their first entrance, the lighting dimmed for a couple of minutes, subtly reminding guests to return to their seats. There is no need for any emcee to do the introduction – Hong Fong and Chui Peng did that by staying on-stage after the cake-cutting ceremony to address their guests.

And for their second march-in, a short clip was played, featuring a welcome message from Hong Fong who was smartly decked in his pilot uniform. With the ballroom still in darkness, the band launched into 爱得正好 (The Right Kind Of Love), the theme song in the popular Chinese movie 玻璃樽 (Gorgeous). Hong Fong explained that this song held special meaning to them. He felt so much for the song that he wrote the lyrics personally and gave it to Chui Peng as a gift during their courtship days.

It was apparent that Hong Fong is a man who enjoyed springing happy surprises on Chui Peng. As it was her birthday that day, he arranged for a cake to be presented to her and got the entire ballroom to sing a birthday song. Not just any cake, but a special 3-tied one, each layer comprising a different fruit flavour, all Chui Peng’s favourites. He also secretly recorded well-wishes from her friends and compiled them into a video. Indeed, as Hong Fong said during his speech, such gestures are worth more than material gifts. I couldn’t agree more.

Dear Chui Peng and Hong Fong, it was a pleasure performing for your wedding. We wish you many years of happy surprises and love!
