Cheryl’s thoughts: 陪我看日出 (Watch The Sunrise With Me)
Want your wedding party to consist of guys and gals who are fun, rowdy and easy on the eyes? Play beach volleyball. This is the lesson that Audrey and I learnt at Eric and June’s wedding, a couple who are part of a group of friends who regularly meet to play volleyball and hang out.
Audrey and I agree that Eric and June’s wedding dinner was decidedly the funkiest we’ve been to, and that’s saying something. From the moment we were greeted by June’s brother John, dressed in an unconventional silver-grey suit and white shoes, we knew the night was going to be different.
Sure enough, the guests continued to wow us one by one, from the little girl dancing to our music in her tiered flare skirt, to the gorgeous emcee Grace with her satin-decked crutches. June’s mother, Mrs. Ang, who very thoughtfully arranged our presence as a gift to June, was also decked out in a glamorous turquoise gown. From the sight of all these guests, we knew we would be looking at a seriously cool couple tonight.
The fun only continued with the video montage of the morning’s festivities. Over time, I’ve gotten used to seeing the bridesmaids heckle and bully the groom and his buddies for ang pows and other tributes. This was the first time I’ve ever seen a group of groomsmen, all dressed in daring bold purple shirts, take the girls on and tease them back every step of the way. It certainly made for a spicy and exciting morning!
When we finally caught sight of Eric and June, our first thought was that it’s no wonder their guests are so cool. Eric came across as the proverbial “macho man”, who you can depend on to protect you and take care of you, and June, the perfect match by his side, beautiful yet strong in character.
However, when it came time for the toast, Eric showed that he was not a typical “macho man” who’s all rough and tough. In a voice laced with emotion, he spoke of the trials he and June experienced as they journeyed towards this day, and thanked both his parents and June’s parents, presenting them each with a special bouquet of flowers. It was a heartfelt and touching moment that brought tears to our eyes.
To complete our already great night, Eric and June’s funky guests were happily also appreciative guests, clapping, humming and singing along to every song with great enthusiasm, and approaching us after our set to compliment us. It was a true pleasure to perform to such an audience! Special thanks go to John and Mrs. Ang, who went out of their way to make sure that we were well looked after despite being so busy.
Eric and June, we truly enjoyed being a part of your special night. May your life together be filled with love and trust always.
