Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Love Me Tender

A late afternoon downpour threatened to dash all of Joyce and Don’s hopes of an al fresco wedding celebration. Miraculously, the rain clouds dissipated at 5pm, as if punctured by a huge needle. The frowns on all the faces of the hotel staff went away, replaced by thankful smiles and a renewed energy to Get Things Moving again. The tables, the flowers and the cake were brought out of storage in quick sucession, until voila!, the stage is set for a beautiful wedding under the stars.

Under the canopy of a cloudless (and unfortunately breeze-less) sky, Bevlyn, Joel and I sang our hearts out for Giraffe and Hippo (affectionate terms for Don and Joyce respectively). I love the fact that both of them clearly have a sense of humour. Apart from naming themselves after animals, Don (dressed in military uniform) used a long sword to slice the wedding cake!

I knew that Joyce was pretty stressed with wedding preparations (Don was travelling frequently for work), so I asked Don to serenade his lovely bride. Don agreed without hesitation, and chose to work his magic around an Elvis classic, Love Me Tender.

Don’s impromptu performance went without a hitch, and he received a warm embrace from Joyce as reward.
