Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Destiny

Exchanging e-mails with Jamie was a delight, because her writing had a very conversational tone; it felt as if I was just sitting in front of her, sharing a cup of coffee and chatting.

Jamie: “We were secondary school classmates, and actually dated for a short period during our school days. However, during then it didn’t work out & we lost contact aft we left school. It was until years later that we coincidentally bumped into each other again, and that was the spark we needed to give our relationship another try.”

Hsin: “Thanks Jamie, for sharing this with me. What can you tell me about Elison?”

Jamie: “My husband places his career first, and always believes in doing well in his work, but he’s totally oblivious to the nitty gritty of family life – totally exasperating! But at times, the little things that I don’t think he even bothers, he actually has been quietly listening in & making plans… For example, I made a casual remark to go have dinner at Jewel box for dinner. And within the next few weeks, he actually made a reservation to bring me there for my birthday celebration. That meant a lot to me.”

Later on, Elison joined in the conversation, to tell me about their favourite activity.

Elison: “My wife and I will used to travel around in my previous car (small old Nissan March), to find good food. Most of the memories during our courtship days were in this car. And I remembered that she actually cried when we handed over our Nissan March to be traded in for our current car.”

Destiny certainly played in big part in igniting that spark of love between them, after spending many years apart. Hence, I started the evening with a beautiful song called My Destiny.

The audience responded warmly to our songs, and to further engage them, I asked if they would like to send in some dedications. In a matter of minutes, the first dedication slip came, bearing the title of a song and a message for the couple. After Ariel and I sang performed the song, the second slip was presented to us. I had opened the floodgates, and we were soon inundated with dedications! Here’s proof:

We realised that we had to totally abandon the set list just to sing the dedications (with the couple’s blessings, of course.) Luckily, James was a real trooper, and had a treasury of tunes residing in him. With my trusty stack of lyrics, Ariel, James and I sang as many dedications as we could. The audience’s enthusiastic response and cheering at the end of our performance made the effort totally worth it.

Thank you, Jamie and Elison, for the opportunity to perform at your wedding. Congratulations, and here’s wishing you good health, love and joy!

Dear Hsin Yeow,

Apologies for being late in our reply, Elison & I just got back from our short trip.

Thank you very much for your performance on our wedding, it was such a pity that we could not sit around and hear more of the songs that we have selected, which meant so much to us both.

Time was so short, and things were in such a frenzy, and I felt so sorry that we have only exchanged that few brief words.

From my understanding, there were an overwhelming response of dedications during the wedding, I bet the guests enjoyed themselves thoroughly, and I trust that should be a true testimony of your team’s performance.

Thank you once again, I do look forward to hearing more of A Little Dream in other weddings.

Best Regards,
Elison & Jamie
