Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Grow Old With You
Joan described how she met Denis so vividly, I was transported back to “1997 at Coffee Bean (Boat Quay) on a Friday.”
In her own words,
“It’s always Friday where I’ll drive there after class and have coffee with friends. Denis too, will do the same. Funny thing is that, he will always sit outdoor and I’m always indoors enjoying the air-con. So, we noticed each other through the glass panels and that’s also when his friend, Nicholas (who will be attending our wedding) came to me and my friends and asked for our numbers. Interestingly, I did not give him my number, but my friend, Celeste (who’s married now and will be attending our wedding too) gave hers instead. She communicated most with them all.
And I could still remember the first movie which we watched – Mr Bean. (met at Coffee Bean for the first time, watched Mr Bean for the first time, all the beans… hahahaa)”
Fast forward to 12 January 2005, the day Denis and Joan solemnised their marriage at Fullerton Hotel.

Here, Joan waxes lyrical about Denis:
“Even though Denis is two years my junior, he has taught me how to be a better person in many ways. He has always been very loving and patient towards me.
Seriously, I really cannot imagine loving someone else other than Denis. You know, when my buttons are loose, it’s not my mum who help me to sew but rather it’s Denis who will get it done for me. And days when i hate to do my ironing as Monday blue is approaching, he will do it for me even if he’s tired too. But I feel that I have not done much for him. I have always been receiving so much from him since the day we were together. I guess it’s never too late to shower him more care and love and that’s probably how it makes love last longer or rather forever.”
I was so inspired by Joan’s words, I changed some lyrics of Grow Old With You and dedicated the song to the couple:
Whenever you’re sad
Carry around all your shopping bags
All I wanna do is grow old with you
Iron all your clothes for you
All I wanna do is grow old with you
Another highlight of the evening was getting Denis to sing 男人不该让女人流泪 (Men Should Not Make Women Cry). It was impromptu performance but Denis did a fantastic job! Just take a look at the photos below:

Compliments from Joan:
Hi Hsin Yeow
Thank you for your email below. Sorry that I took quite a while to reply.
As for the performance that night, I gathered a lot of feedback from my friends. They liked it very much and it’s a great performance overall.
A couple of them actually sat back and listened throughout. They can even remember what songs were performed!!!! I was really surprised as I thought they might be so engrossed in the food and everything, they would forget about three great singers/pianist on stage.
As for Denis & myself, we enjoyed it very much too and I was very happy that Denis sang a song on stage! Very unlike him. Before our wedding day, he had sworn never to perform, even if A Little Dream tried to ‘sabotage’ him. But you guys made him do it without much sweat! Thank you so so much! I was very touched indeed!
