Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Somewhere Only We Know
In the cynical world we live in, can love still last forever? Or is it enough to be in love right now?
Darren would always be remembered as the groom who elicited a collective gasp of horror when he called Juanita “my current wife” and “hopefully my eternal happiness” during his speech. To Juanita’s credit, she hardly batted an eyelid and playfully jabbed Darren’s butt in mock protest. The guests were discerning enough to laugh at the joke.
Darren got his comeuppence when he was ribbed for his questionable fashion sense by Juanita’s close friend. She quipped, “Darren, thanks to Juanita, you will not be wearing boxers with Chinese characters that mean ‘tour guide’! You might think it’s cute, but really, it isn’t!”
Juanita certainly lived up to her reputation as fashion goddess that night. All the gowns she wore looked absolutely amazing. More eye-candy came in the form of the eloquent emcees – news presenter Otelli Edwards and actress Cassandra See.
Imelda, Jonathan and I had a ball at the wedding. The appreciative guests clapped loudly when they heard a familiar song, like Chasing Cars and 选择 (Choice). The first dance also went very well, despite no prior rehearsal with the couple. Other couples also joined Juanita and Darren on the dance floor, as we sang Billy Joel’s classic Just The Way You Are.
Something magical happened right at the end of the evening. Ben, a fantastic jazz pianist and wedding guest that evening, came up to me and said he would like to play a song. He chose On The Wings Of Love, and the moment I started singing, Juanita dropped whatever she was doing, grabbed a spare microphone and sang along with me! It was a spontaneous moment that brought the evening to a perfect close.

Compliments: Great Night of Music!
Dear Hsin Yeow, Imelda and Jonathan,
Many thanks for a great night of music which I’m sure made the night complete for Juan & Darren.
The sets were flawless and your patience in dealing with our lasy minute adjustments in between sets was very much appreciated.
Hope to see you or have you soon at another event!

Somewhere Only We Know – Richard Hughes, Keane’s drummer, offered the following explanation of the massive hit on a fansite:
“We’ve been asked whether “Somewhere Only We Know” is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs… It’s perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message… Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time…”
Just An Old-Fashioned Love Song – the title says it all
