Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: Love On The Aegean Sea

Both Adrian and Ivy were involved in relationships before falling in love with each other, so I was surprised to learn that Adrian proposed to Ivy after just 9 months of courtship.

When I asked Adrian why he was so sure, he said simply, “When I’m not with her, I start to miss her. I’ve never felt that way before.”

Ivy chimed in, “Adrian’s really attuned to women’s needs and emotions. He’d do really sweet things for me, like how he burnt six CDs of love songs when I went to Shanghai for a business trip. The first two CDs were songs about missing a loved one, the next two CDs were filled with songs about falling in love, and the last two CDs had songs about being deeply in love!”

Adrian and Ivy

After I heard the story, I realised why Adrian gave me a shortlist of over 50 songs to choose from. I’m sure most of the songs are in the awesome 6-CD collection he prepared specially for Ivy.

After knowing their love story, and watching the video montage Adrian painstakingly created from scratch one week before their wedding, it was easy for Bevlyn and me to bring out the emotions in the love songs. Ein Ein and Jonathan were on fire that night, and the audience rewarded us richly with their applause.

P.S. A shoutout to Irene, Adrian’s fourth sister, and my JC classmate. I had no idea I was going to meet her until that night, and it was a pleasure to see her and her beautiful family again after so many years!

Edit: I only knew much later that Albert was in the audience. He contacted me when he was preparing his own wedding, and I got to sing for him and Jasmine almost a year later!

Memorable Moments:

The wedding featured four (yes, four) photo/video montages. Two of them were really special, and touched me. Here’s why:

First montage – photographs of various stages of the couple’s lives

lovingly compiled and produced by Adrian himself. He did an incredible job; there were graphics, special sound effects and a meaningful soundtrack (for example, he chose the classic song 橄榄树 or Olive Tree, as background track when his childhood photos were shown because it was the tune that lulled him to sleep when he was a baby)!

Second montage – a video of their proposal, taken by Gream and Leigh, a Scottish couple with whom Adrian and Ivy were holidaying in Greece

– Gream and Leigh bore witness to Adrian’s proposal, which was on a cliff overlooking the Aegean sea. With the rolling cerulean waves beating a grand symphony, and the ochre sun shining on Ivy’s beautiful face as Adrian went down on one knee, their joy was palpable to everyone watching the video.

Wedding Tips:

(1) Create the wedding videos yourself, and add in personal touches whenever you can
(2) Record your proposal so that it can be shown during the reception!

Compliments from Adrian:

Hi Hsin Yeow,

We are very happy to have you folks as our wedding singers, especially Hsin Yeow, our fabulous and always passionate MC. Despite the fact that we chose the songs, you delivered with passion and love as though it was your wedding.

It was a great night and the guests were asking where did we get such friends with amazing talents.

You definitely caught their attention and I’m sure many will want to be “friends” with you soon.

Great people, great songs and a unforgettable night!
