Alan and Laraine’s attraction for each other was not love at first sight. In fact, they didn’t think much of each other at the beginning – Alan has a skin tone a shade too dark for Laraine, and Alan thought Laraine was not that slim and tall for a SIA girl. But as we know it, the works of destiny is wondrous.
The 1st march-in was a well-orchestrated one – CD music was played to usher in the dashing swordbearers. When they had nailed the formation which coincided with the end of the music, our pianist Linus played the ‘Wedding March’ song to welcome Alan and Laraine into the ballroom. I thought that it was a brilliant idea to have a combination of both music – CD and live! The couple’s binding sense of humour was highlighted during the solemnisation ceremony. They co-wrote the beautiful yet amusing vows, one of their them was ‘may our ups and downs be kept to the bedroom‘.
I even remembered Laraine addressing Alan as her ‘humourous firefighter‘!Immediately after the 2nd march-in when the couple reached the stage, Alan and the band sprung to action to do a surprise on Laraine – ZQ passed the microphone to Alan, Linus and Ivan broke into a lovely intro which led Alan to sing the song L-O-V-E. Laraine was caught off-guard by this ‘spontaneity’, but unknown to her, Alan had been practising and memorising the lyrics on his own prior to the big day, and even did a rehearsal with the band before the banquet started! When Alan finished the song perfect to a T to wide applause, I passed a huge bouquet of roses to Alan for him to give it to Laraine. We love it when we’re involved in serenading the bride! The couple also dedicated a song performed by the band ‘Friends’ (by Alan Tham), to thank their friends for their valuable friendship.
My most enjoyable part of the performance had to be when a 2-yr-old child came up to us and dance and swayed along to our music. I couldn’t resist picking him up and giving him a kiss to end the last song!
