Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: On Bended Knee
One of the cheesiest pickup lines ever is, “Hello, have we met before?”
I can just imagine Bobby or Adeline saying that when they met while working together at M1. They had temped at the same restaurant a few years ago, so they must have found each other slightly familiar.
Call it fate, serendipity, whatever you will. It brought them back together for a second time, and sparks flew. The rest, as they say, is history.
“What a great story!”, I told Bobby.
Bobby agreed, and said, “I want to do something special for Adeline during the wedding, but I don’t know what.”
“Okay, but tell me more about the two of you. For instance, how did you pop the question?”, I asked.
Here, Bobby turned sheepish. “Oh, it could have been better planned. She thought I proposed because we were about to purchase a flat.”
I was triumphant, “There you have it. You have to propose to her again, in front of all the guests.”
That’s what Bobby did.

After his thank-you speech, he led Adeline to the center of the stage, knelt on one knee and said, “Adeline, when I proposed to you in November, it wasn’t because of the flat. I did it because I wanted to. Remember the engraving on your ring: In sickness and in health, Bobby loves Adeline? That’s what I truly feel. Adeline, will you marry me?”

Adeline, who started tearing up the moment Bobby knelt down, was so choked up with emotion she could hardly speak. She whispered, “Yes”, and they collapsed in each other’s arms.

Compliments from Bobby and Adeline:

Dear Hsin Yeow,
First of all, a very big Thank You for a job well done.
So far, all I have heard from the guests are about your good singing. Perhaps the only feedback they had was that there were not enough mandarin songs to cater to the audience, the majority of whom were Chinese. I have already clarified with them that this was I engaged you only a week before our wedding!
I believe I will hear more from my colleagues and friends when I return to work the week after. I will also probably circulate your contacts as there are a few friends getting married this year.
Thank you very much once again
Thanks
Bobby & Adeline
