Zheng Quan’s thoughts: A Simple And Beautiful Night
In all the wedding dinners that I have performed, this is one that is free and easy. Simon and Jacklyn preferred to rejoice the occasion with me hosting a gathering of about 50 guests, which included their closest friends, relatives and family members. No picture clips, no live journey video, and no morning express highlights, no speeches, just a simple get-together dinner with live music from our two-piece band.
With a small group of people, it wasn’t difficult to get full attention from the guests. I performed songs specially chosen by Simon and Jacklyn themselves. They penned their personal messages to two of the songs namely “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/ What a Wonderful World” and “月亮代表我的心” (The Moon Represents My Heart).
The latter of the two really touched me as I sang it and read out the dedication to Simon and Jacklyn’ s parents on their behalf. Written in Mandarin, the message conveyed, “To our parents, thank you for your upbringing, love and care. Over the years under your care, we’ve caused you much concern at times. We just want to say that we love you and we wish you good health.”
Apart from the toasting or “Yum Seng” which is the climax of the wedding celebration, we also had some fun with the Christmas carols, to which all the guests sang along. We also had one of their relatives game enough to come up on stage to sing “How deep is your love?” after cajoling him.
All in all, it was a night of sharing love and joy within a simple wedding celebration setting. Simon and Jacklyn, we wish that you will have a blissful marriage, and happiness always.
