Eleanor’s thoughts: No Ordinary Couple

When asked to describe his romance with Doreen, Luigi would only say that the way in which they got together was quite “old-fashioned”, having been introduced by Doreen’s mom, and that there was “nothing memorable” though there were “happy times”.

I find it quite typical of pragmatic Singaporeans that they would describe even love in such down-to-earth terms. However, as many times as I have hosted or performed at weddings, I always find myself touched and cheered by witnessing two people commit to building a life together. After all, what is ordinary about love in this often dreary world?

Luigi and Doreen were certainly no ordinary couple. In addition to being very good-looking, they displayed, in their studio photographs, a great sense of fun and adorable devotion to their two cute dogs, who were included in many a memorable shot.

The atmosphere at the wedding dinner was lively and cheerful, with a colourful mix of friends and relatives who were clearly enjoying the good company and food. (I can personally attest to the fact that the food at the Regent Hotel was excellent!) They responded with great gusto to the wedding toast, and I could have sworn the chandeliers shook with the enthusiastic repetitions of “YAM SENG!”

Congratulations, Luigi and Doreen. It was a pleasure and a privilege to host your wedding dinner, and I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.
