Juliet’s thoughts: Lucky
The night started with our singer and MC Zheng Quan who introduced the couple and shared with us their love story, with interesting excerpts from how they first met to how he proposed. The lovely couple then proceeded with a lively rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, played by Feri (guitarist) and Julian (pianist), and sung by Zheng Quan himself.
It was a lovely sight as the couple walked down the red carpet. Right after the 1st dish’s presentation, I started our first set officially with What A Wonderful World, dedicating this to all the couple as well as their families and friends, as a reminder of love in all seasons. I especially recall Zheng Quan’s rendition of The Eagles’ Love Will Keep Us Alive which was very tender and earnest. The band also played more contemporary love ballads such as How Do I Live, My Valentine which the crowd seemed to easily enjoy.
Genevieve and Daniel had handpicked these songs, some of which were evergreens, that still very much spoke to our hearts, whenever we had a chance to perform them. These include old-time favourites, by Teresa Teng, as well as Jackie Cheung. My personal favourites for the night were Something Stupid, a duet with Zheng Quan, and 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart) dressed up jazzy by our very versatile and fun musicians, Julian and Feri.
However, the highlight of the night, has to be our very own couple. Genevieve and Daniel’s surprise for their guests during their 2nd March-in. They very confidently waltzed down the aisle singing Jason Mraz’s Lucky! It was very well-received and applauded by their friends and families. We spoke with Genevieve after our performance, and told her we were impressed by her composure. And I was even more impressed by her response, she indicated she was always up for a good challenge, especially when she’s nervous! Bravo for the good-spirited couple! We had enjoyed performing for them and would like to wish them a very blissful and blessed marriage.
