Imelda’s Thoughts: In My Life
The past year of my life had flown past really quickly. I was just lamenting to a good fellow musician friend how I’m getting older and more wrinkly… and honestly feeling a little sad about it…
The very next evening was our performance at Shangri La for Daniel and Alice’s wedding. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the groom’s brother Desmond and good friend Pradip, and a little while later by the groom himself. As I saw a rather familiar gentleman walk towards me, it only struck me when we shook hands and introduced ourselves that this was a face I actually knew from way back… more specifically, half my life ago!
I knew Daniel and a bunch of his good friends when we were still in Secondary 3 and he told me that all of them were going to be present at his wedding that night! Gosh… my mind was in a little bit of a whirl cause I hadn’t seen them in years, and they don’t even know that I sing for a living. To be honest, I was a little terrified (Singer’s Phobia – Performing for old friends she hasn’t seen in eons, especially when they don’t know she sings. Yikes!).
Thank God as the evening progressed, Singer’s Phobia wore off more quickly than expected. Sharing baking tips with Mei Mei and “Aunty” Fabian certainly helped to ease most of the anxiety. Looking at the lovely couple and their wedding pictures made me feel really happy that Daniel had found his soul mate – Alice, and that they are now happily settled in Perth.
It was going to be his parents’ 45th wedding anniversary and Daniel took this chance to invite his dad to surprise everyone with two songs – “What a wonderful World” and “My Way”. He performed both magnificently and even had young female fans run up to stage showering him with flowers and kisses!
It was a really enjoyable evening performing for Daniel, Alice, and their family and friends. As I bade farewell to my old friends and walked out of the ballroom, I was quietly content that the 30+++++ years of my life has been a good journey. And as I look forward to more in my life, I’d also like to wish Daniel and Alice many wonderful years in their life together. God Bless!
