Tanya’s thoughts: 夜上海 (Night In Shanghai)

Although there was no specifically mentioned theme for Joshua and Bijun’s wedding, it was apparent the moment we arrived at the foyer area. There was small trishaw tucked in a little corner and guests were taking photos in it.

On the tables were some decorative items such as the old-styled Chinese umbrellas and paper fans! The ballroom was resplendent with the bright red hues and decorative red lanterns. Yes, it seemed to be ‘Shanghai Night’ and when we looked at the songlist that the couple put together, everything clicked into place.

The highlights of the night were the games and surprise item by the groom. The couple was very sporting, much to the delight and amusement of the guests!

The guests were thoroughly entertained at the trivia questions and the responses by the couple. The forfeit was a kiss that had to last as long as the guests applause went on.

Then came the tender moment when the groom serenaded his wife with David Tao’s 爱很简单 (Love Is Very Simple) and our band accompanied him on the piano and saxophone. It was an impromptu performance without any prior rehearsal but Joshua did well and everyone cheered him on.

It was a great evening and the guests and the band had a fantastic time. To Joshua and Bijun, thank you for having us there to be part of the fun and here’s wishing you both a happy and everlasting marriage!

Compliments from Bijun:

Hi Hsin Yeow,

Sorry this came a little late, Joshua and myself just wanted to extend our thanks to Tanya, Jonathan and Ian for their wonderful performance at our wedding.

The jazzy rendition was exactly what we were looking for as we wanted an oriental yet contemporary vibe, and our guests really enjoyed the performance as well (too bad we couldn’t be around the whole time!).

I have already passed your contact details to 2 friends who are interested in engaging your services, so we do hope to enjoy your band’s performance once again at their weddings.

Thanks and have a good weekend ahead!

Cheers,
Bijun
