Hsin Yeow’s thoughts: 一个像夏天一个像秋天 (One Like Summer, One Like Autumn)

Eileen thought William wasn’t a particularly romantic guy, but she had to take it all back when he surprised her by proposing while they were on a trip to Genting.

The proposal had all these elements:
– surprise (check)
– bended knee (check)
– witnesses (check)

William even arranged for photographs to be taken to document Eileen’s expression of joy, bliss and utter astonishment when the ring was slipped onto her finger.

So Eileen thought of springing a surprise of her own on her wedding day. That surprise was A Little Dream!

Eileen and I had met when I was performing at one of her company functions. I found her very friendly and approachable, and I was thrilled when she asked me to perform at her wedding. I found Ariel and James to form the band, and the three of us had a whale of a time.

Halfway through the set, I remarked, “Gosh, we can’t seem to singing songs from so many different genres and languages!”

Indeed, the repertoire Eileen chose was incredibly eclectic and had something for everyone.

When I was singing “You And I Both”, one table of twenty-somethings applauded. When Ariel was performing “Fly Me To The Moon”, it attracted applause from yet another group of guests. When I sang the Hokkien classics 家后 (Queen Of The House) and 一人一半 (One Half), the older folks cheered. Thank you all, for your support!

Congratulations Eileen and William! Thank you so much for inviting us to be a part of your beautiful wedding. May you both enjoy a lifetime of sweet surprises!

Compliments from Eileen:

Dear Hsin Yeow,

We would like to convey our heartfelt thanks to you & A Little Dream Band for making our special event of our lives a more memorable one. You were simply marvelous and our guests had a wonderful time enjoying the repertoire prepared.

We had received many compliments for the live performance and some had even thought we had played a CD and asked where they could purchase it!

We had only wished that we had time to sit down, enjoy the banquet as well as your live performance. Maybe we could, soon, at our friends’ weddings (since we received many enquiries)….

Once again, a BIG THANK YOU to you for the wonderful evening.

Cheers,
William & Eileen

Wedding Tip:

Eileen obviously put a lot of thought in her repertoire. Apart from selecting songs of different languages and genres as mentioned above, she had specific reasons for choosing certain songs:

一个像夏天一个像秋天 (One Like Summer, One Like Autumn) – because she identified with the lyrics and thought it described her relationship with William pretty well!

Nobody (Wondergirls) – this ubiquitous pop hit was specially dedicated to Eileen’s bridesmaids. The groomsmen also had to dance to the tune during the gate-crashing!

幸福摩天轮 (Ferris Wheel Of Happiness) – a beautiful song by Eason Chan, William’s favourite singer

Unforgettable – for the couple’s friends who enjoy jazz standards
