Bevlyn’s Thoughts: 天堂 (Heaven)

Love knows no boundaries, and Serena and Rik are living proofs of this. Rik hails from Holland while Serena, a Singaporean, had their paths crossed when they met each other in Ho Chi Ming city where they work. Rik recalled Serena calling him one fine day to ask him out for a drink, and his first impulse was, “Ah, I’m kind of tired (etc)”. In response to that, Serena said simply, “It’s ok lah! Maybe next time then!” Thank goodness Rik changed his mind instantaneously, a crucial decision which eventually led up to their wedding day!

The 1st set of our performance was at the nice garden right outside the ballroom. The band performed the classic ‘She’ (by Elvis Costello) while Serena’s father walk her down the aisle between 2 rows of invited guests for the solemnisation ceremony. After the solemnisation, the band proceeded to perform at the garden for the reception before heading into the function room for the banquet.

The banquet was indeed very cosy and intimate with around 50 people (or less) in the Ginger room. I was tasked to read out Serena’s heart-warming dedication to Diana, her sister, before singing “月亮代表谁的心” for Simon and Diana. Diana was a little choked with tears upon hearing the dedication, and when I proceeded to sing the song, Serena went over to give Diana a big hug 🙂

The speeches on the other band, were hilarious, especially the ones made by Diana’s songs Joshua and Jonathan (mind you, they said their speeches off their minds, not read off a script!). My favourite part of the speeches was when Jonathan said,”When I first saw uncle Rik, I don’t know who this angmoh is, or whatever. Then I know that he is auntie Serena’s boyfriend…..and today I’m happy to announce that they are husband and wife!” 😀
